The national park surrounds Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on the continent of Europe. The glacier has long been regarded as an attractive area for walkers and hikers.
The well-known glacier Nigardsbreen is a glacial outcrop branch of the big plateau. After 45 min.'s drive from Nes Gard, you can park at the lake in front of the glacier. A boat trip of 5 minutes and a walk of about 15 minutes bring you close to the blue ice.
Glacier walks and hikes
The experienced glacier guides at Nigardsbreen offer a wide range of well-organised hikes, both for children as young as 6 years old and for those looking for something more challenging. From June to September you can join guided walks suitable for all levels.

In the neighbouring valley of Nigardsbreen Glacier you find the fascinating Bergset Glacier. Usually the outcrops have the shape of a branch of ice. Bergset Glacier is more like a wall of blue ice. After a walk of about 1 hour in a charming valley, you will get quite close to this impressive glacier.
